German filmmakers visited St.Petersburg State University of Film and Television

From 3^rd  to 6^th  of December The Festival of German Cinema under the auspices of the Goethe Institute was held in St. Petersburg for the 12th time. The participants accepted the invitation to visit the University of Film and Television and met with students

First of all, the students met with the young German director Burhan Qurbani, who presented his film debut "We are young. We are strong "at the Festival .The film tells about the events of 1992 in the city of Rostock, where local people clashed with the residents of the hostel and the Vietnamese refugee camp.

The director told the students  about the work, how he investigated  the era of the early '90s, how he worked with young actors, many of whom were  debutants.  Burhan gathered his team in his student years, when making  the short "Shahada" together with the cinematographer and sound engineer in the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy.

The director told Students how he managed to shoot a scene with crowd of 500 people, creating an atmosphere playing the music 90s. It was important to hear for the audience, that the young director was able to obtain funding for the debut work in Germany. Burhan Qurbani was also interested  in how the process of filmmaking for young filmmakers is organized in Russia.

The next meeting took place with the film crew of the film "Hedi Schneider is stuck." The director Sonia Heissen, cinematographer Nicolai von Gravenits and producer Jonas Dornbach came to the meeting. 

Students interested in all stages of production of the film: from the introduction of the idea (the story of a woman in depression) to the screening of the film at the Berlin Film Festival in 2015. The producer of the film told about financing of film production and promotion of the film at the European Film Market. The cinematographer focused on the used equipment, as well as on how he achieved the effect of "natural" light in the film.

- It was very interesting  to know in which conditions modern cinema in Germany  is created- said 1st year student of The Faculty of Screen Arts Vitaly Abramovskiy. - Such meetings are very useful for us, we learn about the nuances in the work of our colleagues around the world, because we communicate in the same language, the language of cinema.

After the events the students went to the cinema “Aurora” for watching films of young German filmmakers.
